I’m 60 years old and last month I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Although I was eating more than I should, I always tried to choose healthy alternatives whenever I could. When I didn’t feel as energetic as usual, I thought it was because I was getting older. When I started to feel dizzy and shaky I was quick to visit my doctor, but I never expected him to say I had diabetes. The moral of the story—when you sense something is wrong, don’t wait. Head to the doctor right away.

My doctor recommended that I attend a diabetes education program at my local hospital and it has been really helpful. The nurses at the program explain everything so clearly and always answer my questions. My class and I even went grocery shopping together! I still have a lot to learn about managing my type 2 diabetes, but thanks to my education class I’m off to a great start.
