Is it the lighting?

Mom tripped on a rug the other day at three in the morning. Should I install night lights in my parents’ home to help prevent falls when they get up to go to the bathroom?

The cause of the fall may be the area rug. You can purchase sticky fasteners that keep the rug in place from a hardware store. Another option is to ask your mom if it’s ok to move rugs out of high-traffic areas. Older people’s sight can be worsened by improper lighting and shiny floors. Instead of a night light, ask your mom to consider a small lamp on a timer.
